Storia

Il nome mwhaLøten deriva da un'antica fattoria (mwhqnorreno: mwhgLautvin) che oggi viene identificata con mwhwPrestgarden, dove fu costruita la prima chiesa del paese. Il nome mwialautvin è composto da mwiqlaut (conca) e mwigvin (pascolo). Dal 1500 fino al 1838 il nome veniva scritto com mwiwLeuten o mwjaLeuthen. Fino al 1918 si scriveva come mwjqLøiten.

L'antico centro di Løten si formò intorno alla chiesa a partire dal mwlaXIII secolo. Nel mwlqXVI secolo re mwlgCristiano IV di Danimarca proibì l'importazione di mwlwbirra dalla mwmaGermania, e Løten e altre zone della contea divennero famose per le proprie mwmqdistillerie. Tra queste, ancora oggi, vi è la Løiten Brændericite-ref-2[2].

A causa dell'importanza delle distillerie, Løten ha dal mwnw1984 adottato uno stemma con un mwoacorno potorio.
